last weekend we had a great 3-day weekend thanks to memorial day. it was a karma-filled weekend thanks to volunteer opportunities, daily yoga classes & a trip to the farmer's market.
now most friday nights, you can find me curled up on the couch with my boys, watching a movie and sipping on wine. it's my absolute favorite way to unwind from the work week. but this particular friday, we were brewing some coffee and putting on ratty work clothes to go out to the Homes for Haiti event at our church. i'm not gonna lie, it was not easy. admittedly, i am a creature of habit. and my couch-movie-wine habit is a treasured one. but i also knew from past experiences that these opportunities we are given - to go beyond our comfort zone and ourselves to help others prove to be so worthwhile. when we arrived at the build site, it was a bit chaotic as the shifts were changing. for the first few minutes, we weren't sure where to go or what to help with. but as the team leaders got organized and explained the duties, we were able to get started at one of the stations. the build was only about 10 hours into the 50 hour endeavor and we learned that 25 homes had already been built! how awesome. everyone was so fired up to be working on such an exciting and worthwhile project that the pace was hard to slow down! by the end of the weekend, 70 homes were built and hundreds of lives were changed - not just for the wonderful people in haiti but here in good ol' san antonio as well. what a blessing to be part of God's good work.
other highlights from the weekend include:
-celebrating my un-birthday. hey, why not?

-delish dinner made entirely from farmers market finds: large gulf shrimp, squash and new potatoes. yum yum.

-my alarm clock (jack)... while a huge lick in the face is not the most peaceful way to wake up in the morning, i do enjoy the beautiful morning sun:

-sunday dinner date with cody. we enjoyed a plate of delicious food including wine, olive oil and balsamic vinegar brought from italy by the stantons!

this weekend we tackled the world of garage sale-ing. wow. i had NO idea we had accumulated so much...junk. it felt so good to get rid of a lot of our "things" and simplify a little. trust me, we still have sooooo much more than we need but at least it was a step in the right direction. one woman came by and bought EIGHTY pieces of clothing. EIGHTY! and it only made a dent in the piles of clothes we were selling. tell me why on earth do i have so many clothes? okay, i know the answer to that: working at clothes stores all through college. for real, it looked like i robbed an ann taylor for all the stuff i had from there! the best part was everything we didn't sell, we loaded into the back of the car and dropped off at the medina children's home. we were so glad to share with families who need it. the garage sale was a LOT of work...days of cleaning out closets and setting up and packing away but in the end i'd say it was worth it.
saturday was also awesome because we had girls night! dinner at stonewerks, complete with cosmos & then off to see Sex and the City 2 with rachelle, dawn, abby & melissa! we got all dressed up and had so much fun! pics soon...
