food for thought....

so i've been really busy lately with stuff at work and home. all good, exciting things but have been feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to make sure everything gets done perfectly. who me? no way right?

anyway, i had a nice little "a-ha" moment in yoga on monday night that i think is worth repeating. shout out to stephanie, one of the best yoga instructors i've ever been blessed to encounter. she's certainly a wise soul. she was encouraging us to not force our bodies into the poses. classic teaching of yoga: it's a "practice", every day our bodies are different and the beauty of this for me is that it is the one physical activity i can do where i am not trying to PUSH beyond what my body wants to do. all the time we hear it: go faster, lift heavier, run longer. challenge yourself. right? well, don't get me wrong. challenge is all good in my book. it's how we grow and improve. but every once in a while, it is sooooo nice to just accept where your body is and what it is doing right NOW, not what it will do 8 weeks from now if i can keep this up...nope, with yoga it's all about accepting where you are today and appreciating that. some days my balance is better, some days the strength in my legs, some days my flexibility. it's always new and i'm always learning something.

so yeah, back to the lesson. stephanie was saying not to force our bodies into poses & to let the poses come to us. just like with life, so often we try to force things when we really should be letting life just...happen. that message couldn't have come at a better time for me. lately, i've been forcing EVERYTHING it seems: forcing success at work, forcing my body to fit into the size i think it should, forcing relationships, forcing workouts, even FORCING myself into traffic. my days lately have been filled with waaaaay too many exasperated "ugh's!" and "gah's!" and "seriously?!?!". maybe i should be directing that "seriously?!" toward myself rather than the guy who won't hurry up in traffic. just sayin'

i'm actively trying to just take a step back, do the best i can and enjoy all that is coming my way...

namaste.
